Ron Abel

Award-winning American composer Ron Abel not only composes but has appeared in film and television as an actor as well as music director. He has been an arranger and conductor and created the theme songs for ABC’s NiteCap and Animal Court . He has also seen success on Broadway, at major live special events, in the Los Angeles theatre and in the recording industry.

Ron Abel has been highly successful in television and his credits include musical direction for the I Love Lucy 50th Anniversary Special on CBS, on-camera musical director for Name That Tune and a featured role on the hit show Cheers. He has also done musical arrangement for Michelle Pfeiffer, Kim Basinger, and the Lily Tomlin, Bea Arthur and Carol Burnett TV specials.

He has worked in the recording industry and has produced and arranged on Deborah Gibson’s Colored Lights, and Valerie Pettiford’s Hear My Song. He arranged and orchestrated a new symphonic suite for West Side Story for Richie Ramone, of The Ramones fame. It and his song Until Now were both included at Rose Bowl celebrations in 2007.

Additionally he has worked on major special events in various capacities including the Ford Field (home of the Detroit Lions) opening ceremonies, the Dream Foundation fundraiser and Tap Your Troubles Away, A Tribute to Jerry Herman which benefited the Actors Fund where he was conductor and musical director.

On Broadway he was been involved in Blame it on the Movies and Twist of Fate for which he also won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle and L.A. Weekly Theatre Awards for his score. In Los Angeles he has been part of theatre productions of Is This Your Life?, Rockwell: Life on a Palette and To Sir, With Love.
