Acclaimed English composer, Sir Edward William Elgar excelled in romantic composition. He was born on 2 June 1857. Few of his popular orchestral works consist of the Pomp and Circumstance Marches and the Enigma Variations from earlier days. Elgar has been a multitalented composer. He had composed chamber music, symphonies, oratorios and instrumental concertos. During his musical career he has also served as Master of the King’s Music in 1924.
Elgar was an early starter and right from a young age he had musical talents. He started taking piano and violen lessons when was eight. Elgar would keenly listen to music when ever it was possible. He eagerly listened when his father played organ at St. George’s church. Later on he started to learn piano as well. However he liked violin the most and that is why the he wrote his first piece of music for violin.
From 1890 onwards Elgar earned fame due to his composing talents. This success can be attributed to the works he did for the great choral festivals of the Midlands. Some of his successful works that were appreciated are The Black Knights and King Olaf produced in 1896. They were created under the inspiration of Longfellow, The Light of Life and Caractacus.
