Jean Sibelius

Greatly celeberated composer Jean Sibelius was born on December 8, 1865 in Finland. In the later Romantic periods he reigned supremely with with his outstanding music. Sibelius was also a revered composer in the late 19th and 20th centuries. With his musical achivements he was able to shape the national identity of Finland’s people. The best work of Sibelius includes a collection of seven symphonies. These symphones were composed according to the personal style of Sibelius. A huge credit goes to Sibelius in composing these symphonies as they are still being played in concert halls today. Moreover, Sibelius’ most popular works consist of Valse Triste, Karelia Suite, Violin Conerto, Finlandi and The Swan Tuonela. There are other works that find their inspriation from Kalevela. He is said to have produced more then a 100 songs for piano and singing. Sibelius has also written incidental music for 13 plays. The opera Junfgrun i tornet (The Maiden in the Tower) is one of his memorable works. There are works on chamber music, piano music and 21 individual prints of choral music. Siblius also developed some fine Masonic ritual music. This great artist kept composing actively up to middle of 1920s. His last major works were the Seventh Symphoney composed in 1924 and tone poem Tapiola produced in 1926.
